Computer Assistance
For a suitable free antivirus try AVG Free.
AVG Free 2011 - Upgrade via this safe link "CLICK ME"
or this
http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition-2011/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?tag=mncol;pop
You'll need to uninstall the old AVG V9.
Then do a fresh install on this one, make sure you check all ticked items, as
often they try to install extras.
Things like Google Bars, etc.
I don't know how the new AVG is, I'm still using
Avast from www.Avast.com
which is free for 12 months after the free registration.
So if you find AVG 2011 is annoying, perhaps get rid of it and try Avast Free
Antivirus.
DURING INSTALLS: We suggest un-ticking
toolbars and Google stuff, when installing software online, also if your IE
Browser is slow, try turning off some plug-ins, via the tools menu, most are not
required, Java & Flash Player are required.
Also with this new version of AVG, by default it sets a schedule to scan every
day, this maybe a little overboard (slowing everything down when you need it the
most), I'd suggest open it and go to the Tool's Menu, Advanced Options, Schedule
and disable (Manually scan "C" at least monthly) or set for a specific day.
Avg tries as many other Antivirus do, to sell you a security version, in most
cases people do not know what to say yes and no too, in all the security is
useless, my suggestion is to run and update "Spybot Search & Destroy" (but
disable the Tea-Timer and any toolbars during installation) and scan your
computer at least monthly, or when you notice things getting slower or unusual
things happening. Have it fix everything it finds (for
further information click this PDF with some suggestions included). |
