History

Born in November 1963, David Belfield's photographic experience started in 1975 with his first camera, a Box Brownie.

Brought up on a farm west of Mt Barker, W.A. until age 17.

Was involved in the Albany Computer Club, formerly known as the Albany Amiga User Group, from 1989 to 1998, with this knowledge he developed a business offering computer tutoring, repairs, sales and service until June 2010.

In 2000 he purchased his first digital camera.

Today the quality of cameras and computers have advanced immensely and so have the opportunities to take quality photo’s of what this special part of the world has to offer.

In 2003 he compiled a DVD using photos taken around the Albany Region, the first DVD was for family and friends only, but the second called the Albany Region DVD (version 1) was professionally produced with voiceover and backing music for retail, creating a movie 41 minutes long, it also had a free promotion for Whale World.

18 various Tourist inspired DVDs later and a wide retail outlet for purchasing by locals and visitors alike. The latest Tourist DVD was filmed in Esperance and called – “Out of the way, out of this world DVD”, this was created using a system that makes it affordable for regional area's to have their own tourism DVD, compiled to show the best of what that region has to offer .

Latest Achievements

David applied for the 2008 WA Tourism Business Awards and became a finalist in the Tourism Marketing category, they had a record number of entries.

A photo of the Albany Wind Farm taken by David was used on the cover of the WA Country Women's magazine, issued in 2008.

He was nominated as a finalist at the 2009 Albany CCI Business Awards, the category was the Great Southern Development Commission Export Award, he was competing with million dollar wine sale companies.

He won five encouragement awards in an Albany Gateway photographic competition in 2009 and 2010.

Front page news, a photo of a lightning storm over Albany, that David took, was placed on the front cover of the Albany and Great Southern Weekender, issue 15th April 2010 [View the front cover].

Since 2009 David’s photo’s are regularly featured in the Great Southern Weekender Newspaper which is a great achievement from someone not associated or on the payroll of this local paper.
